Blue Rose Cafe was a seminal Oklahoma progressive country band that featured Pat Long as lead singer, Kevin Welch on lead guitar, Gary Johnson on keyboards, Steve Grunder on bass and Mike McCarty on drums. The band featured original songs by Long, Welch and long-time friend John Hadley as well as some great covers by such singer / songwriters as John Prine,Willis Alan Ramsey, Randy Newman and John Haitt. Hiatt's song, "Train To Birmingham" as sung by Long, was a standout at their shows, and years later Welch put it on his second album for Warner Brothers.
